If you take a moment to reflect, you might come up with numerous examples that make you feel great—Christmas dinners with friends, romantic evenings with your partner, lazy Sundays at the beach, or unforgettable nights out with your besties.
If you asked me, I’d say that I wish my life was a string of these events, with at least 80% of my memories being pure bliss. And I believe that, if I asked you, you’d want the same, right? But then why isn’t this (yet) your reality? Have you silently accepted that such a life might not be in the cards for you? Have you internalized messages from your parents, teachers, and surroundings that the world isn’t all sunshine and rainbows? What beliefs have you absorbed that are currently preventing you from leading your happiest life?
Every day, you let life’s demands inundate your mental “inbox” until the pressure builds and you finally plan a “conscious moment” to escape. You do it because you feel an urgent “need.” Yes, that four-letter word is a signal. Because what does “need” mean? It signifies a deficiency somewhere, and it’s used to spur people into action. Think of emergency exits, emergency situations, and emergency plans. It means there’s no other option. Something must change. And logically, if you continued as is, the pain you’d experience would outweigh the discomfort of taking action. It makes sense, doesn’t it?
So, to put it another way, the pain in your daily life is so significant that it propels you toward something that brings you joy. It’s an eye-opener, isn’t it? You’re living a life where you feel daily pain, and you’ve grown accustomed to it. Why? Well, there are probably daily joys too, which help you cope. Hallelujah! But what happens when those sources of happiness change? What if you lose your job? Your relationship ends? Your parents pass away? Then, all that’s left is the pain.
I might sound quite dramatic, I understand that, but it’s sadly a reality for far too many people. Everyone assumes they don’t fit into this picture, and that’s exactly why it’s so perilous. Nobody wants to face the danger head-on.
So, how are you? Are you taking good care of yourself? Are you living a life that brings you joy, or are you living someone else’s version of it? What do you want? What makes you happy? How happy are you right now?
Grab a pen and paper, set a timer for 15 minutes, and jot down what your life would look like if anything were possible. Imagine you have all the money in the world, unwavering self-confidence, excellent health, and exceptional relationship skills. How would your life look? Write it down as if it’s already true, as if you’re looking back on these experiences.
Once you’re done, reread your ideal life. Are there small or even tiny steps you can take TODAY to move in that direction? Could you make a call to inquire about the trip you’ve been dreaming of? What can you do RIGHT NOW to ensure you have a “happily ever after”?
Conclusion: “And they lived happily ever after…”
