So, you’re diving into the world of websites and want to make sure yours is a knockout? Don’t we all, am I right? So, what makes one website stand out and convert like crazy, and other websites not so much? Let’s break down the art of creating a website that not only turns heads but also works like a charm.
Your website is your virtual storefront. It’s the first impression you make on potential clients. Let’s make sure it’s an impression that lasts. You don’t want just window shoppers; you want people to come in, take a look around, and buy your product, service, or offer. And if they are not buying anything, you want them at least to download your free offer so you can receive their email address for your email list.
Table of Contents:
The truth is people want to know who you are, what you do, and who you do it for in one glance. They don’t want to scroll to find out. Unless it’s your mum. Your headline needs to be crystal clear and welcoming at the same time. Like when you enter a store, you want to feel welcome and know if this is the store that will provide you with whatever you were looking for. Don’t overthink it. Just start writing whatever comes to mind and change it if you thought of something even better.
For example, “Hi, I’m Caroliene Alexandra, your new BFF and digital business coach, and I teach you how to create, launch, and sell your digital products with confidence in 21 Days!”
This is something I see all the time. People love the products they offer and can’t stop explaining all the details and what it can do. But they forget to explain how it will benefit their audience. They are not talking about the actual result. Potential customers want to be taken on an imaginary journey. They want to know how this product or service will help them and how your product or service will change their lives.
No one likes mystery surprises, especially not in pricing. Lay it all out, even if it’s just the basics. Transparency builds trust, my friend. And of course, if you provide a service that’s, for example, custom-made, you can’t communicate the correct price, but you can communicate a starting price. This way, people instantly know if you are the right fit for their budget.
Put on your psychic hat and think about what questions your audience might have. Answer them before they even ask. Not only in your website copy but also create an FAQ section so that when your potential customer contacts you, they are not taking up all your time with asking questions that could have been avoided. This way, you can dive straight into building an honest and genuine relationship.
There is nothing wrong with showing off a bit. I am talking about reviews and success stories, of course, not you bragging. Your audience loves to read success stories! Let your happy clients and success stories do the talking. It’s like having your own cheerleading squad. They want to know that the service you are offering is making clients happy. Wouldn’t you want to know? I’m guessing that when you’re in a foreign country and you’re going out for dinner, you go straight to TripAdvisor to check out the reviews. Well, it’s no different when it comes to your product or service.
Don’t get all jargon and complicated on your audience. Even if you think they will understand, just pretend they don’t. Explain it like you would to a 10-year-old. If they don’t understand, your audience will most likely not understand. Try to explain in examples if you don’t know how to make it sound simple.
Make it ridiculously easy for your audience to get in touch. Use forms throughout your website, a contact button in your menu bar, and/or one in your footer. Also, make sure that you don’t ask all the questions under the sun in your email form. A simple name, email address, and question box will do. Don’t forget to list your email! Not everyone likes to use a form.
No one likes being lost at a party, and the same goes for your website. Ensure there are no dead ends. Every page should guide them to the next stop on their journey. That means that you have to tell your audience what to do next. Even when it’s super obvious to you, it might not be super obvious to them. Make sure you use Call to actions as much as you can. Really? Yes, really. It’s not some slimy way to push your audience to buy something from you; it’s your way of guiding them towards their next step.
Imagine you walk into a grocery store. Everything is in a certain place because they did science-based research that this layout will work the best for people guiding them where they need to be and how to make them buy more. Now I am not saying that your website should be full of “buy me” buttons, but I am saying that it has to make sense. For instance, it doesn’t make sense to put sweets and sugars next to vegetables and greens. But it does make sense to put vegetables and greens with other vegan products and sweets and sugar with, for instance, beers and soda. So walk through your website step by step. Is everything where it should be? Does it make sense?
Let’s be real for a second. Remember the time that Instagram didn’t work for several hours, and we got a peek inside the future if you could only reach your audience through social media. All these platforms are basically rented space. It’s not yours. If they decide to pull the plug tomorrow, you have no way of reaching that audience anymore. Unless… you had an email list. So make sure you scatter some great free resources, freebies, or lead magnets (all the same) over your website to collect those email addresses. This way, you can genuinely build a connection with your audience.
